Report from the AGM

Report of Annual General Meeting 7 June 2015

The Chairman welcomed the attendees of the inaugural AGM.

The Chairman’s report outlined the successful growth of the number of groups affiliated to CoVoP at 84 the national coverage extending from the north to the southwest of England. The website had also expanded as the planning issues of respective groups had multiplied and now incorporated lots of advice on planning, response to applications as well as participation in appeal hearings.

CoVoP had also made several representations on national planning legislation – in particular to the DCLG Select Committee on the operation of NPPF, attended Parliamentary discussion groups hosted by MPs on an equal footing with numerous other organisations such as CPRE, Civic Voice and the National Trust. A national Day of Action on the theme of “Listen to the People on Planning” had been mounted in June somewhat thwarted by the weather on the day but reasonably well supported by numerous affiliated groups nonetheless.

With a successful application for funding having been made CoVoP was now in a position to consider mounting a national conference or a number of smaller regional events, develop better materials to support groups with planning issues as well as continuing to support groups and lobby on their behalf for improvements to the planning system.

CoVoP’s finances were encouragingly healthy, having been boosted by a £5K grant geared toward national developments in the areas of Open Access Training on Planning Issues; a National day of Action; National Conference; Lobbying costs and Website Management, but it was essential that continued efforts be made by all groups to spread the word to encourage further funding with the objective of enabling CoVoP to provide free resource assistance to groups in need of support.

The AGM mandated the Trustees to apply to the Charity Commission to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
